 Catral has attracted some negative publicity in recent years, with the local council and Mayor under investigation when it came to light that a number of new homes had been built irregular. The legal wranglings over the case are still ongoing but only affect around 1200 new homes built irregular in Catral.

Catral is set in the heart of the Vega Baja, just north of Almoradi and is easy to reach from both Alicante’s El Altet airport (around a 20 minute drive) or Murcia’s San Javier (around 40 minutes’ drive). It also has the great advantage of being only 10 kilometres from the popular beaches of Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja. Catral boasts breathtaking views and is close to a famous area of outstanding natural beauty – El Hondo Reservoir, which is a protected nature reserve.

 

 

 

Sports lovers can make the most of the rural trails in the area for walking and cycling, or drive a short distance to reach the coast and its many water sport diversions or many high quality golf courses. Services in the centre of town are plentiful and high quality, including shops, banks, many lively tavernas, medical and sports centres, and a public library.
