   Located on the southern coast of Alicante, Guardamar del Segura holds a coastline with 12 kilometers of fine, golden sandy beaches of great quality,which part of this stretch is Naturist, its exotic sand dunes that are vestiges of past civilizations and a full range of tourist services to enjoy your stay. Dunes and pine trees make an attractive landscape that invites leisure and recreation.

The beaches of Guardamar are made up of Los Tusales (the naturist beach), Los Viveros, De la Babilònia , Playa Centro, La Roqueta , El Monacayo, Playa del Campo and Les Ortigues.

 

There is an awfull lot of history to Guardamar. The name Guardamar, roughly translates as Guardian of the Sea. The 840 hectares of pine forest that was planted in the early 1900´s along the dunes of the beaches, was to stop the sands from the wind coming off of the sea  covering the town. With the rise of tourism in Spain in the mid-twentieth century, this place went on to become the main economic engine of the town.

La Pinada , as it is called and the surrounding area now is not only home to many varieties of trees but there are a great variety of natural plants and wild life to enjoy. It is a wonderful place for an afternoon stroll to admire the beauty of the natural landscape.

 

Most of Guardamar's ancient remains have been long since lost, however an element has been preserved. There is an important archaeological site at the remains of the medieval castle. Dating back to between the 9th and 10th centuries this castle is unique to the west and has been declared of cultural interest. Guardamars Castle, El Castillo de Guardamar del Segura, is located on top of a rocky hill next to the town.

Guardamar's cuisine represents the genuine essence of the Valencian and Mediterranean cuisine. The garden and climate presents us with many dishes with fruits and vegetables. But the main character is the Nora (the nyoro), peppers dried in the dunes and which enriches our stews and rice dishes worth knowing and offers local restoration: the cauldron, rice fishermen made in their boats, rice with spring vegetables "arroz a banda", rice with rabbit and snails ...
